So this past weekend was our first weekend together in Hawaii. On Saturday we woke up and DJ (one of the guys that Austin went to basic with at Ft. Benning) gave us a ride to Waikiki to get our car. We spent the day at one of the beaches on Waikiki near Diamond Head swimming. We wanted to go surfing but the water was too calm and there weren't any waves. After we got back to Wahiawa (why-he-wah) we went to Waimea Bay (why-may-a) which where we had seen the dolphins and gone snorkeling last time. We met up with some of Austin's friends and Holly and hung out for the rest of the day. On a side note while we were there it started to rain and a lot of people left, but when it rains in Hawaii it's more like a misting. The sun always stays out and the clouds are never dark or angry looking. It'll just randomly start spitting rain.
On Sunday we slept late and we didn't leave the house until 12pm. We drove to the Univ of Hawaii football stadium where they have swap meets on the weekends. They're held in the parking lot of the stadium and it only costs $1 for admission. There are rows and rows of tents and stands with people selling all kinds of things from tee shirts to towels and knick knacks to local nuts and fruits. We got a couple CDs of local music which we really like and listen to all the time. After the swap meet we decided to take a drive to the Marine base to visit Austin's friends Austin Webb and his sister Kiela and her husband Derick. The Marine base is beautiful- it's on the peninsula so it's completely surrounded by bright blue water. We ended up having dinner with their family (they have 2 little boys and a 6 month old baby girl).
Monday we took a trip to a beach called White Plains. The surf was pretty good so we rented a surf board but I didn't end up going out. Austin took the board out and it took him 35 minutes to catch a single wave. Too much effort for such little reward. We brought back the board and went home to get ready for the evening we had planned. We had tickets to a Luau at the Hale Koa Military Resort on Waikiki! It was awesome! Very inexpensive and they gave you a ton of really delicious food and the entertainment was great. They had hula dancers from all across Polynesia and fire dancers too. We had a blast and look forward to going again sometime.
Tuesday was a pretty low key day. It was Austin's first day back at work. I dropped him off and then went grocery shopping for the week at the commissary. We had lunch together on post and then my afternoon was spent dealing with a 4hr power outage that occurred throughout the whole community. I wonder what the rest of the week will bring!
Our internet hasn't been working properly and it's really really slow. I tried uploading the pictures of the house but it never works. I'm gonna continue trying but it may be a few days before they're up here. Hopefully sooner than later though!

Our Blog
Aloha!
Today Austin and I set up this lovely new blog so that anyone and everyone can follow what and how we're doing. The link will be posted on our facebooks and we'll try to update it as much as possible. I arrived in Honolulu on Wednesday evening and it is gorgeous here! The apartment is perfect (pictures soon to follow) and I can't wait for our things to get here.
So far Austin has been a fabulous tour guide- on Friday we went to the North Shore snorkeling and saw 6 dolphins and even heard them singing underwater. We went out last night to Waikiki with some of Austin's battle buddies and my new friend Holly. We parked in what we thought was an amazingly cheap parking garage that turned out to close at 12am (with our car still parked inside). After an hour later and a million "God bless you American Heroes" from our interesting cab driver we made it home safely.
Today we're headed back to Waikiki to get our car and go surfing!!
I've taken pictures of the apartment and will post them later on today. Hope you like our new blog and continue to follow us :)
